JOHN WILLIAM HARDING

John William Harding, age 82, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

John was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 25, 1944, to George W. Harding II and Mary (Sheeley) Harding. An accomplished athlete and standout high school football player, John had a successful career as a printer in the Kansas City area after graduation. On August 1, 1969, he married Linda Martin. Together, they shared over 56 years of marriage and were blessed with two sons, John and Mark.

An avid outdoorsman, John was happiest when hunting and fishing, and he spent many weekends boating, skiing, and swimming at lakes across Missouri. In his later years, John found great joy in tending to his beloved garden and award-winning pecan grove. He was also a passionate sports fan, always cheering on KU Basketball, the Kansas City Royals, and the KC Chiefs.

John was known for being a fantastic cook; his BBQ and homemade pizza were prized events among his sons' friends. For years, he and his '84 Chevy truck, "Brownie," attended many BBQs and served as the "Chuck Wagon" full of food and beverages at countless deer hunts. Most infamously, during a camping trip called “The Annual”, Brownie, John, and his brother George once led an impromptu, self-sanctioned parade through a campground at Truman Lake. Always good for a laugh and an unforgettable story.

Over the years, his friends affectionately dubbed him "Baby" or "Baby John," while his sons and their friends greeted him as "Big Terry." He loved every dog he ever met, though Champ and Griz were undeniably the most spoiled. Above all, John was a devoted family man who consistently supported his sons, grandsons, and granddaughter, attending countless events and offering the encouragement they needed to strive for new achievements.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George II and Mary Harding, and his brothers, George and Joe Harding.

John’s legacy lives on through his beloved family. He is survived by his wife, Linda Harding; his sons, John Harding (Victoria) and Mark Harding (Tami); his three grandchildren, Mikayla Harding, John Preston “JP” Harding, and Noah Harding; his brother, Chuck Harding; his sister, Marge Harding; and his nieces and nephew.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Cullen Funeral Home (612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri 64083), with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. John will be entombed at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri.
