JERRY LEE MURPHY

Jerry Lee Murphy, age 76, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on February 5, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas.

Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, February 9, 2018, at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, Missouri. Interment will take place at the Belton Cemetery.

Jerry was born on September 17, 1941, in Altamont, Kansas. He was the son of Lester L. Murphy, Sr. and Mildred (Westervelt) Murphy.

After graduating from high school, Jerry entered into the United States Air Force and selflessly served his country.

Jerry attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He went on to attend college at the University of Central Missouri and received his Masters of Physical Education degree.

On June 5, 1964, Jerry was united in marriage with Karen DeLange. Soon followed three children, Brett, Kevin, and Jeanna.

For over 30 years, Jerry taught American History at the Belton High School. He also coached football, baseball, and track.

Jerry was a member of the Belton Civil Defense, and the Belton Parks Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Murphy, Sr. and Mildred Murphy.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karen Murphy; his children and spouses, Brett (Twyla) Murphy, Kevin (Stephanie) Murphy, and Jeanna (Alan) Clanton; his brother, Lester Murphy, Jr., six grandchildren, Ian, Siera, Savannah, Kollin, Kole, and Kaitlyn; and one great-granddaughter, Adalynn.
