JERRY DEWAYNE DUNN
Jerry DeWayne Dunn, 56, of Liberty, Missouri passed January 6, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born January 22, 1956 in Independence, Missouri, the son of Samuel B. and Paula Averil Nicholas Dunn. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by wife Julie; sons, Michael Samuel Dunn and wife Abigail, and Kevin Nicholas Dunn; daughters, Laura Catherine Dunn and Maggie Elizabeth Dunn; brother, Mark Douglas Dunn and wife Carol; niece, Tiffany and husband Jacob and their daughter, Aubrey.
Jerry grew up on the east side of Kansas City. Jerry was a boy scout and was warrior in the tribe of Mic-O-Say and his tribal name was "Warrior Little Traveler of Trails." He graduated from East High School in 1974 and from Rockhurst University in 1979 with a Bachelor's in Science in Business Administration and became a Certified Public Accountant. He joined what is now Cochran, Head, Vick & Co., P.C. in 1981. Before he became disabled from his pancreatic cancer, he was the President and member of the Executive committee of the accounting firm. Jerry was also a member of the E.S.O.P. plan and was a trustee. He was a C.P.A in both Kansas and Missouri and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He took great pride in his work and cherished his relationships with business associates and his clients.
Throughout his adult life, Jerry remained dedicated to the Northland community. He was a board member of the Liberty Hospital Foundation, a past president of the Liberty Sertoma Club, and was awarded a gold coat for increasing membership in the club. He served on the City of Liberty Zoning Committee, was a longtime member of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the North Kansas City Rotary Club.
Jerry valued sports and felt that many important life skills and lessons could be obtained through athletics. He loved coaching his children's athletic teams. He coached soccer with the Liberty Patriots, and coached both baseball and basketball for Liberty Parks and Recreation. He also enjoyed playing in many adult tennis leagues in the area. Jerry was a very honest, loving, respectful, kind man and was adored by his wife and children. He and his loving wife celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on December 30th, 2012.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church 309 S. Stewart, Liberty, MO with visitation 5-8 PM Friday, January 11, 2013 at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery.
