Age 71
Janice (Jan) Elaine Thomas, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2025, at the age of 71. She was born on December 4, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Earl Thomas and Marcella Bernice (Tanner) Thomas.
Jan was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who touched the lives of everyone around her with kindness, unwavering friendship, and compassion. Jan had a remarkable 20-year career in Human Resources with Time Warner, formerly American Cable Vision (now Spectrum), where her professionalism and kind nature earned the respect of all who worked with her.
A woman of deep faith, Jan was a long-time and devoted member of Countryside Bible Church in Peculiar, Missouri, where she served for many years as the Vacation Bible School (VBS) director. She created and nurtured a program that continues to inspire future VBS events. Her creative vision left an indelible mark, providing joyful and memorable experiences for children while fostering a strong foundation for their faith and encouraging lifelong relationships with God. Jan's sense of humor was often an uplifting medicine for her brothers and sisters in Christ, bringing light and joy to everyone she met. Her faithfulness, love, and service to the Lord were unwavering.
Jan's love for crafting, stamping, and animals—especially horses—brought her joy and connected her to the world around her. She will be remembered for her boundless compassion, her generosity of spirit, and her dedication to her family and faith.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Bernice Thomas; her son, Joe Wooldridge; her brother, Jack Weatherman; and her sister, Betty Schearer. She is survived by her three loving children: Jennifer Thomas, Matt Wooldridge (Hilary), and Abby Mayes; her seven cherished grandchildren: Laurel Person, Lydia Hanson (Adam), Porter Foltz, Jackson Mayes, Paxton Foltz, Paislyn Foltz, and Joe Mayes; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Hanson.
A service to celebrate Jan's life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Janice will then be laid to rest at Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Countryside Bible Church, Beauties and Beasts www.beautiesandbeasts.org or your local no-kill animal shelter, in honor of Jan's love for animals.
