JANICE LEE BATEMAN
Janice Lee Bateman, age 78, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Menorah Medical Center.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A funeral service limited to 100 attendees, will follow the visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Mt. Washington Forever in Independence, Missouri.
Janice was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 21, 1942 to Fred Sterner and Mildred (Darling) Sterner. After graduating from Argentine High School, Janice furthered her education and received her associate degree from the Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City. On October 21, 1978, Janice was joined in marriage with her loving husband Richard and together they were blessed with two daughters, Sheryl and Jamie. In life, Janice loved adventure. She spent many years, with her family traveling, fishing, boating, and camping at lakes across the U.S. She very much enjoyed art, spending time with her grandchildren, and recently attending NASCAR races including the Daytona 500 to watch her favorite driver, Kyle Busch. The biggest Kansas City Chiefs fans, Janice and her family held season tickets for twenty-three years attending every home game they could. This became their Sunday ritual for some time.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mildred Sterner; and half-sister, Donna Breedlove.
She leaves behind her loving husband of over forty-two years, Richard Lee Bateman; two daughters, Sheryl Watson (John) and Jamie Appelbaum (Dan); brother, Jim Sterner (Carol); three grandchildren, Mia, Elisabeth, and Lucy; niece Melissa Sterner; nephew James Boyd Sterner (Sophia); and grandnephew, EJ Sterner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Vitas Hospice, 8527 Bluejacket, Lenexa, Kansas 66214 or the American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, Missouri 64105 or Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., P.O.
