JAMES HOWARD SHILT

James H. Shilt, age 102, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019.

A Visitation Service will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A Graveside Service will be held the same day at 2:30 p.m. at Newtown Cemetery in Newtown, Missouri.

James was born on February 19, 1917 in Newtown, Missouri. He was the son of Aubrey Shilt and Sarah (George) Shilt. Growing up, James had one brother and one sister. After graduating high school James was joined in marriage with his late wife, Zella (Cooley) Shilt on September 9, 1936. Together they were blessed with three children, Jerry, Shirley and Edith. James created for himself a prosperous career with Allied Signal as a Machinist. As a man of Christian faith, he was a member of the Newtown Christian Church and a life-long Mason. He was also a member of the Lions Club in Newtown, Missouri. All of James' family members could agree that he was an incredible storyteller. James loved to spend time in his garage and collected as well as restored wall clocks and grandfather clocks. This of course led his given nick name from his grandchildren, "Toc Toc."

James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Zella Shilt; parents, Aubrey and Sarah Shilt; one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his son Jerry Shilt (Virginia); daughter Shirley Kirby; daughter Edith Jane Villareal; nine grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and twelve great-great grandchildren.
