JAMES R. RAMIREZ

James R. Ramirez, (Cardi/Jim) 82, of Peculiar, Missouri passed away July 1, 2012 at St. Joseph Medical Center surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be Noon on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Cullen Funeral Home, with visitation from 10 to Noon. Burial will be in Raymore Cemetery following the services. James was born July 16, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of J.R. and Walburga Ramirez. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Franklin Schugart; sisters, Virginia Drakenberg, Alice Meyers, Mildred Benevento and Caroline Ochs. James is survived by his wife Eva of 60 years; four children, Danna York and husband Tim, James R. Ramirez, Jr., Carole Smith and husband Cary, and John A. Ramirez, Sr.; two sisters, Victoria Alvarado and Beatriz Sanchez; two brothers, Victor and Bernardo Ramirez; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and two on the way. James was a US Army Veteran from 1951-1953. He served as a sergeant during the Korean War. He attended Finlay Engineering College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 1957. He worked for the Missouri State Highway Department for 31 years, first as a civil engineer, then as a resident engineer, retiring in 1988. During his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed travel, and spending time with their children, and grandchildren.
