James Wade Phillips

James W. (Jim) Phillips was born September 9, 1926 in Marshall, Missouri to William T. and Mary E. Phillips. He attended various Missouri Schools through elementary and secondary and graduated from Manuel High School, Kansas City in 1944. Phillips was inducted into the United States Army Reserve at Washington University and served on active duty in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; he was transferred to the European Theatre of Operations. He was stationed at Orly Field, Paris, France as a radio operator. He was discharged in late 1945 and returned to the United States to attend college at Central Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg, Missouri.

At CMSTC, Phillips majored in secondary school education in math and science. He graduated in 1950 and finished his masters in school administration in 1953. Jim and Charlotte Sue Hauser were united in marriage at Polo United Methodist Church on May 25. 1951. Jim taught in Collins, Camden, Polo, Rich Hill and California Missouri before he took a position in charge of educational conferences at the University of Missouri. Phillips also accepted a position with the Frisco Railroad in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1960, Jim became the Jr. High Principal at Clinton Missouri and served in that position until 1976. He also taught sixth grade math and science where he served until his retirement in 1987.

During his years as a teacher, Jim also served as lay speaker for two small Methodist Churches in Mt. Zion and Cole, Missouri. After Charlotte retired in 1989, the couple moved to Mt. Zion and later to Warsaw to homes overlooking Truman Lake. After serving as a pastor, Jim and Charlotte moved their church membership to United Methodist Church of Warsaw and later to the Warsaw Bible Church in 2005. In December of 2007, Jim and Charlotte moved to Foxwood Springs Retirement Center Village in Raymore, Missouri. They are members of Blue River Bible Church, Kansas City, Missouri.

Jim was preceded in death by his older sister, Margaret Eleanor Phillips of Warsaw, Missouri. The marriage was blessed with two sons, and he is survived by Jeff Phillips of Peculiar, Missouri and Jon Phillips of Centerton, Arkansas. Jeff and his wife Sheryl (Entrop) Phillips have a son and daughter, Bryce Phillips and Lexie Phillips. Jon and his wife Marsha (Morgenroth) Phillips have three children, Brandon Phillips, Marcus Phillips and Jenae Phillips.

Jim has three nephews and a niece. Johnny Mike McCollough (deceased), Dr. James Dwight McCollough of Topeka, Kansas, Dr. Stephen Lacey of Coppell, Texas and Pamela Lacey Thomason of West Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services 2 PM Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Blue River Bible Church 15608 Fairchild Drive Kansas City, Missouri 64147 with visitation 1-2 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Fund % Blue River Bible Church.
