He received his draft notice the day he graduated from Knob Noster High in 1943, and served in the US Navy under Admiral Halsey during World War II.
He attended the Kansas City Art Institute, but spent most of his working years in the automotive industry; operating auto service stations throughout the Kansas City area, selling auto parts for Dayco and Borg-Warner, and co-owning Olympic Auto Parts until he retired.
Bill was an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout leader, and a warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was an avid upland game hunter, fisherman, golfer, photographer and wood carver. His family and friends will remember him for his orneriness, sense of humor, and his love of the outdoors.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wauneeta L. Blum, two sisters; Rosalie McGraw and Eursie Brant, and a nephew, Bill Brant.
He is survived by his three children, son, Richard Blum (Susan), two daughters, Susan Boydston (Mike) and Linda Bryant (Gil Heislen); seven grandchildren; Karen Greenwood (Chris), Mark Boydston, Cheryl Blum, James Blum, Rob Boydston (Kate Jennings), Cassandra Patchen (Derrick) and Dallas Bryant (Kayla); and eight great grandchildren, Grant Greenwood, Savannah Blum, Elizabeth Patchen, Reid Boydston, Cameron Bryant, Jack Patchen, Emily Boydston and Colton Bryant.
