JACQUELYN "JACKIE" SUE HARKRIDER

Jacquelyn "Jackie" Sue Weeks Harkrider, age 81, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on October 1st, 2016 in Richardson, Texas. A memorial service will begin 4pm, Friday, October 7th, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 922 W Republic Rd, Springfield, MO 65807.
A Graveside service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, October 9, at West Union Cemetery in Cleveland, Missouri. Contributions may be given to the National CASA Association, 100 W. Harrison Street
North Tower, Suite 500, Seattle, WA 98119, Attn: Resource Development.

Jackie was born December 30, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri. Lived in Belton, MO until graduating from Belton High School. She was the daughter of Edgar "Jack" Thomas Weeks and Dortha Louis (Keller) Weeks.

After marrying Millard Harkrider in 1957, Jackie lived in Lubbock, Texas. They relocated to Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 1960, beginning their family there. Career moves also placed them in Huntsville, Alabama and Minneapolis, Minnesota over the following decade. Jackie moved with her family to Tyler, Texas in 1971 where she became very involved in Scouting with her three sons, including serving as Cub Scout Master at the boy's elementary school, and volunteering at the district level. She helped to coordinate a number of spectacular Pinewood Derby competitions in that capacity. Following divorce, she relocated to Springfield, Missouri in 1987, continuing her career as a certified paralegal working in estate and probate law. Jackie served in numerous capacities with the Missouri ParaLegal Association through the balance of her professional career and into retirement. She was an active choir member of Springfield's Wesley UMC and enjoyed many friendships within the choir and church. Always attentive to thoughtful details, Jackie faithfully sent birthday cards and care packages to her ever growing and scattered family. In addition, she regularly sent encouraging care packages to military personnel serving overseas, from as far back as the Vietnam War to the present, often with a baked item and a personal note.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), an organization dedicated to helping abused or neglected children find a safe, loving, permanent home and the opportunity to thrive. Jackie drew great pleasure in volunteering with CASA for nearly 20 years, benefiting the lives of many children.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Dortha; and her sister, Patricia Duncan.

She is survived by her sons, Craig O. Harkrider and wife, Sharon, of Camden, Ohio; Neal A. Harkrider of Frisco, Texas; and Derek W. Harkrider and wife, Wendy, of Wylie, Texas; nine grandchildren and 2 ½ great-grandchildren.
