HOWARD DONALD BAILEY

Howard "Don" Bailey, age 78, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Leawood Senior Living Community on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

At this time a celebration of Don's life will be held on a later date.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri at St. Joseph's Hospital on February 20, 1942, Don was the son of Howard David Bailey and Viola (Hartley) Bailey. He moved to Darlington, Missouri where he spent his childhood, attending Darlington Grade School then Albany, Missouri High School. In October of 1954, Don was baptized in the RLDS Church, Cameron, Missouri. Don moved back to Kansas City in 1957 and graduated from Northeast High School in 1960. After graduating high school, he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1966. During Don's faithful service he received training in the field of Electronics and was sent to Okinawa, Robins, Georgia, and the Dominican Republic working with microwave radio relay equipment.

While in the Air Force he completed a comprehensive computer engineering course. He took evening classes and earned Associate degrees in Business and Data Processing from Metropolitan Junior College. Don transferred these credits to Rockhurst University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He was twelve credits short of earning a master's degree in Technical Education from Pittsburg State University when he was teaching at Shawnee Mission years later.

Don worked for IBM installing engineering changes to their computers in 1966. He worked at Bendix Aerospace (later named Allied-Signal and currently Honeywell) from 1967 until his retirement in 1994. There Don was an Electronics Inspector, Electronics Technician, and later became a supervisor managing various electronics manufacturing departments. In the Winter of 1983, he was joined in marriage with his wife Lynn Ann Bailey on January 7 th .

Don developed a Computer Repair Technology class for the Shawnee Mission High School and taught there from 1995 to 1997. In 1999 he bought into his wife's family's business owning Oil Plus, a quick oil change facility in Grandview, Missouri. The facility was sold in 2015. Don enjoyed being home and spending his time with family. However Don and his wife did enjoy spending time on the road in their RV, visiting many states throughout the country.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Viola Bailey; three sisters, Judith Hoyt, Virginia Crosby, and Carolyn King; and brother, David Bailey.

He leaves behind his loving wife of over thirty-seven years, Lynn Bailey; four children, Mark Allen Bailey, Sherri Lynn Scott, Cathryn Denise Bailey (Susan Freeman), and Andrea Lynn Johnson (Tom); four grandchildren, Dale Edward "Trey" Scott (Lauren), Brett Taylor Scott, Anna Carina Johnson, and Grace Mei Johnson; brother in law, Robert Hoyt; three sisters, Mildred Sealey (Jim), Maryln Winstead, and Kathryn Zuber (Ronald); sister in law and brother in law, Alison and Bob Cook; brother in law and sister in law, Kent and Bianca Summers; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
