HERBERT THOMAS JAMES III
Herbert T. James III, age 83, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
Due to the current state of emergency issued by the state of Missouri a private family service will be held at Cullen Funeral Home on Saturday, March 21, 2020. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. A burial will be held following the funeral at Floral Hills Cemetery.
Herbert was born in Newark, Delaware on August 18, 1936 to Herbert T. James II and Carolyn (Miller) James. After graduating from high school Herbert joined the United States Air Force and spent many years around the world serving his country. Herbert furthered his education receiving a master's degree in Public Administration from Webster University all during his honorable and faithful service in the United States Military. On October 8, 1959, he was joined in marriage with his late wife, Helga Maria James. Together they were blessed with three daughters, Bianca, Manuela "Ela", and Martina. For many years, Herbert worked as the Public Works Administrator for Kansas City, Missouri. In life Herbert was an incredible athlete, playing soccer during his time in the military as well as roller skating and bowling. He loved his family, pets, and was a board member for the Ruskin Hight's Homes Association.
Herbert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helga Maria James; parents, Herbert T. James II and Carolyn James; and six sisters, Carolyn Chandler, Sarah Patrick, Lillian Johnson, Margaret Hubbard, Francis Word, and Thirstina Jackson.
He is survived by his three daughters, Bianca Kirby (Pete), Manuela "Ela" Wiley, and Martina Peterson; seven grandchildren, Michael, Laura, Anneliese, Morgan, Martina, Charles, and Thomas; and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Ave. #204, Overland Park, Kansas 66202 or a charity of your choosing.
