HELEN JEAN BARON
Helen Jean Baron, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Kansas City, MO on March 24, 2013. She was born on June 15th 1931 in Peru, IL to Arthur and Grace Schmoeger. Her family moved to Kansas City in 1935, and she graduated from Lillis High School in 1948. Helen was married to James R. Baron at St. Francis Catholic Church on January 19, 1952. They celebrated 50 years of marriage together before her husband's death in October 2002.
During her early years Helen worked for Western Auto, Skelly Oil and Sealtest Dairy before she found her true calling as the office manager of Jim's American Family Insurance Agency. They worked side by side for 20 years until they retired in 1994, and hit the road with their travel trailer.
Helen was a founding member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Over the years she participated in many ministries including St. Ann's Guild, CCW and the Food Pantry. She also spent many Friday mornings making beautiful quilts as a member of the St. Joseph Health Center Auxiliary. In addition to spending time with her family and pets, one of her greatest loves was travel. She and her husband traveled throughout North America and Europe, but her favorite destination was always Maui, HI. After her husband's death she continued travelling with her children.
Helen is survived by her four children: Mike Baron, Orlando, FL; Paula Baron Belton, TX; Sue Goergen (Lee), Stilwell, KS; Christi Baron (BJ), of the home; her four grandchildren: Sarah Delgado (Jon), Susan Vahrenkamp (Chris), Jason & Daniel Goergen; her three great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Mackenzie and Amelia; her cousin Bill Ward (Jill), Leawood, KS; and her sister Marilyn Bender (Gene) of Overland Park, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) #1 Elmwood Ave. Kansas City, KS 66103, Wayside Waifs or St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
Services will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church 9020 E 51st Terrace Kansas City, MO 64133. Visitation on Tuesday, April 2nd, from 6:00-7:30pm, and the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 3rd, at 10:00am. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
