GLORIA A. ATWOOD MCLAUGHLIN
Gloria McLaughlin, age 86, died August 28, 2016 at Foxwood Springs Living Center, Raymore, Missouri. Her husband of 51 years, Joseph E. McLaughlin, preceded her in death on January 21, 2003.
She is survived by her sister, Marsha Atwood Woods and nephew, Ricky of Slidell, LA; sister-in-law, Nancy Priddy and nieces, Joyce McLaughlin Granatier and Roberta McLaughlin Kocan of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Marvin Henrich of Belton, MO; grandson and spouse, Christopher (Chip) and Elizabeth Baker Henrich and their children, Jesse and Lilly of Belton, MO; granddaughter and spouse, Kelly Henrich Spiller and Travis Hoover and their children, Rylee, Mackenzey, and Peyton Spiller and Maddox Hoover of Raymore, MO.
Gloria was born in Pittsburgh, PA to William and Mildred Moll Atwood, where she grew up and graduated from St. Raphael's High School with the class of 1948 in the Morningside area of Pittsburgh. She married Joe, a new Air Force recruit, in Savannah, GA, in 1951, and began their married life as an Air Force family, with the birth of their only child, Karen, in 1952.
The Air Force quickly became a lifelong commitment with ordered relocations to Air Force Bases in Texas, California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Spain, and Kansas City. Gloria became proficient in establishing the family home in each of these places and became very active in the Family Services, NCO Wives, and Air Force Sergeants Association organizations, holding various elected posts in each. Gloria also found time to work outside of the home and began to work in the fields of accounting, and eventually retired from the General Services Administration as a Contracting Officer for the Public Buildings Service in Kansas City.
Visitation 9-10 AM and 10 AM Mass will be held at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave, Belton, MO, on September 3, 2016 with internment in Greenlawn Cemetery immediately following.
The family suggests contributions to St. Sabina Church in lieu of flowers.
