GERALD D. UNDERWOOD
Gerald D. Underwood, age 83, passed away peacefully at Foxwood Springs Living Center on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2021 in the Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel at Powell Gardens, 1609 NW US Hwy 50, Kingsville, Missouri 64061.
Gerald was born in DeWitt, Arkansas on October 6, 1937 to Oku Underwood and Mary (Browning) Underwood. Gerald began his military service with the United States Air Force in 1955. In the summer of 1957, Gerald was joined in marriage with his wife Judith (Short) on July 7th. In 1959, Gerald was honorably discharged from his military duty. Together Gerald and Judith were blessed with three children, Tim, Jeff, and Michele. Gerald was second generation Union Painter for Local 9, District Council #3 working on industrial and commercial projects throughout the metropolitan area until fully retiring. In life, he treasured the times with Judith and all their adventures. He loved the outdoors with fishing being his passion, working on carpentry projects and his house, feeding the birds, and caring for his pets and attending many baseball and football sporting events throughout his years. Gerald loved the times spent with his children and grandchildren and especially the moments he had with his great grandchildren, as well as his dogs and kitty.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Oku and Mary Underwood; five brothers; and one sister.
He leaves behind his loving wife of sixty four years, Judith Underwood; three children, Tim Underwood (Karla), Jeff Underwood (Sandi), and Michele Underwood (Mike Marvin); one brother; three sisters; two grandchildren, Nicole Hock (Matthew) and Nathan Underwood (Kristin); and six great grandchildren, Nik, Logan, Kody, Rylee, Lexi, and Kam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Powell Gardens, Kansas City's Botanical Garden as addressed above.
