GENE A. WITT
Gene A. Witt, 78, of Belton, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at home.
Gene was born on August 14, 1938 in Catawba, Wisconsin, son of the late Frederick and Ruth (Schneiderwent) Witt. He married Lela Mansfield on June 10, 1989.
Gene worked for 25 years at Torotel Industries as an Electrical Design Engineer, retiring in 2006. He served in the Army from 1958 until 1961, serving in Turkey, France, Italy and Germany. After discharge, he earned his Master's Degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved traveling to Colorado, Wyoming and Canada, where he enjoyed hunting deer, bear and other large game. Gene also loved sports, especially baseball, football and Nascar.
Gene is survived by his wife, Lela of Belton; children Paul (Shannon) Witt, Tony (Cathy) Witt, and Tina Witt, all of Wisconsin and Sonia (Shannon) (nee' Mansfield) O'Donnell McGowin of Jefferson City, Missouri; grandchildren Jeffrey, Sarinah and James Witt of Wisconsin, Elizabeth and Roan O'Donnell of Jefferson City, Missouri. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred Witt of New Mexico, Neil Witt of Wisconsin; and sisters Jan (Don) Varnum of Maine, Ruth (Ron) Hake of Wisconsin, Helen (Al) Mills of Wisconsin and Nancy (Roger) Abel of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Claude and Dean Witt, and sisters, Lois and Carol Witt.
Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., with a one hour visitation starting at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 West Foxwood Drive, in Raymore Missouri. Burial will follow at a later date at Boone Creek Cemetery in Licking Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations can be offered to Lighthouse Preparatory Academy, 216 El Mercado Plaza, Jefferson City Missouri.
