GAYLES DREXEL MUSTAIN
Gayles Drexel Mustain, age 87, passed away on October 7, 2024, after a lengthy illness following a stroke.
Drexel was born on December 17, 1936, in Dunnegan, Missouri.
He grew up in Stockton, Missouri, and was very proud of his country roots. After graduating high school, he moved to Independence to pursue a career in construction. Drexel was a hard-working and dependable employee, working for the same employer for over 30 years. In 1967, he met the love of his life, Wanda Fay Christian. Their union was blessed with two sons, Garland and Christian. He also raised two daughters, Candi and Tish, from a previous marriage. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, and they share fond memories of Grandpa.
Drexel was a simple man who was happiest when he was reading a good book, petting a good dog, or enjoying a good meal. He struggled with his health much of his life, but still managed to crack corny jokes. His faith was of the utmost importance to him. He spent many years in church leadership, fostering relationships that led others to know Jesus Christ.
Drexel was preceded in death by his wife, Fay; son, Garland; daughter-in-law, Dawn Curtis; parents and stepparents, Gayles and Catherine Mustain, and Clarice and Clarence York; sister, Elizabeth Maples; and brother, Louis Mustain. He is survived by his son Chris Mustain (Lori); daughters Candi Smith and Tish Bennett (Brian); and sister Geraldine Fink (Richard).
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, Missouri. There will also be a graveside service at the Belton Cemetery on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
