GARY G. KERBY
Before the sun rose on Easter morning, April 5, 2026, Gary “Grr” Kerby stepped into eternity to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gary was born on December 6, 1940, in Glenwood, MO. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Wilma and brother Bill Kerby. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years Elaine Kerby, sister Janie Gray, sons Danny and wife Tammie, Gary James, Marc and wife Kara, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Gary was well loved by everyone who met him and was a friend to all. Throughout his life Gary worked as a lineman for Western Union and later became a tax preparer. Gary built a tax preparation business and served thousands of clients. He had a unique business in which he would do house calls to gather clients’ tax information. He worked long days and nights during the tax season alongside his wife to serve his clients. He loved getting to visit with, pray for, and joke with those he served.
Gary enjoyed going to races, antiquing, and finding deals at auctions. He was also an avid cookie jar collector. In his later years, one of Gary’s biggest joys was being a grandfather and attending Cole, Sofie, and Max’s sports games and activities. He never missed a basketball game!
Gary served for many years at Raymore Assembly of God as treasurer, Sunday school teacher, Royal Rangers leader, and occasional youth sponsor. He loved Jesus and had his family in church every time the doors were open. He wanted everyone to know that a relationship with Christ will save a soul for eternity. He loved to ask people “Are you ready?” based on a sermon he heard about the importance of being ready to meet Jesus when the time comes for every person. Gary was ready on Easter morning when the Lord called him home. His family will miss him dearly but rests in the fact that they will see him again when Jesus calls them home. His legacy of humor, hard work, and faith will live on in those who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 6-8 pm at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W Foxwood Drive, Raymore, MO.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Whiskers and Tails in Peculiar, MO.
