GARY L. ABBOTT
Gary L. Abbott, age 76, of Stanley, Kansas, as he took his last breath and passed away peacefully at his home, he took his first breath in Heaven to be home with his Savior Jesus Christ, on October 13, 2017.
Visitation will be 5:00-6:00 p.m. with Memorial Services following at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21st, at Faith Chapel Assembly of God, 15000 Newton Drive, Overland Park, Kansas, 66223. Memorial contributions may be given to Focus on The Family, the Faith Chapel Assembly of God, Children's Mercy or to your charity of choice.
Gary was born June 4, 1941, in Hannibal, Missouri. He was the son of Carl Abbott and Geraldine (Powell) Martin. In 1959, Gary joined the US Navy for two years before being chosen to serve as a Medic in the Marines, where he served for four years in Okinawa, Japan. Gary was involved in POW training of American and Vietnamese troops and continued to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He was honored with the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
For over 30 years, Gary lovingly supported his family as a quality control expert for AT&T until his retirement. He enjoyed working part time after retirement at Blockbuster and Dobble's Hardware Store.
Gary was an active member of Faith Chapel Assembly of God in Overland Park, Kansas. He was a member of the American Legion Post #58; he was also a volunteer for the Telephone Pioneers of America and President of the Blue Valley Sashays Square Dance Club. He was actively involved with the youth by coaching T-ball, Girls Softball, Baseball, Football and Soccer along with the Johnson County 4-H.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Abbott and Geraldine Martin; Louie Martin (step-father); Eddie Abbott (brother).
On September 9, 1977, Gary was united in marriage with Lola J. (Eastland) Randall. Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lola J. Abbott. From his previous marriage his children include Terri Bakalar and Michele Davidson (Ron); other children include, Gina Clabough, Ryan Randall (Cherie), Shanna Palecki (Dan) and Tim Abbott (Rachel); his siblings, Shelly, Linda, Debbie, Karen and Amy; 9 grandsons, 10 granddaughters, and 6 great-grandsons.
