Obituary

ELLA VERN DOWELL

Ella Vern Dowell, age 80, passed peacefully into Heaven, in her home, October 13th, 2023.

Ella Vern Windsor was born August 9th, 1943, in Sumner, MO to Daniel and Nancy Windsor. She was one of 8 children born, sharing her birth date with her twin sister, Lila Fern.

She married Donald Derickson on May 28th, 1966, and from that union was born Shawn Lorraine, on July 22, 1969.

After many years, she met Herman Dowell. They were united in marriage on September 15th, 1990. They had 15 wonderful years together filled with love, laughter, family, and pets.

Ella is survived by her twin sister, Lila Davis of Sumner, MO; daughter Shawn and grand-daughter Sarah, of Grandview, MO; grandchildren Kelsey & Zach of Excelsior Springs & Lawson; great-grandchildren Emmett, Abel, and Isla; stepchildren and grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews; cousins and many friends.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents; her 3 brothers and 3 sisters--Ervin, Frank and Charles, Alta, Francis, and infant Vonda Jean; several cousins and a nephew. She was widowed in 2005 at the loss of her husband, Herman.

From 2005 until her passing, she resided with her daughter and granddaughters. Ella was a homemaker and housekeeper, working for many families & businesses in and around the Brookfield area in her younger years. Cleaning was her specialty & passion. Her favorite pastime was watching television, game shows, crime dramas and of course, the news. She loved the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Royals, enjoyed Chiefs football, and often attended her great-grandson's sporting events. Especially wrestling, traveling to watch them from mat side. She was ever present for family dinners, birthdays, and holidays. She was fondly known as Sis, Mom, Grandma and GiGi to many people--Family--including extended, "adopted" and church family. In her last year, she exhibited a strength and resilience, some would call stubborn, in her battle with cancer. In her weakest moments, she never complained, always showing love with her smiles, hugs, and care. She will be greatly missed by so many.

At this date, there are no formal services planned, but the family will make known any plans for a Celebration of her Life.

A special thank you to Cullen Funeral Home for their tender care and concern for Ella and her family.
