Obituary

EDITH MARIE ERICKSON

Edith Marie Erickson, age 85, of Belton, Missouri, passed peacefully from this life just before midnight on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home in Belton.

Edith was born on June 15, 1941, in Michigan and was adopted as an infant by Henry and Thelma (Gorsline) Smith.

Throughout her life, Edith embraced each new chapter with resilience and determination. She was married three times, ultimately finding enduring love with her beloved husband, David Erickson. Their years together were filled with adventure, companionship, and countless memories until David’s passing in June 2015. Edith often shared stories of their travels and the life they built together, speaking of him with deep affection and gratitude.

Edith was the mother of seven children—four daughters and three sons. She experienced the profound sorrow of losing two daughters and one son before her own passing.

To know Edith was to know someone who never met a stranger. Warm, outgoing, and genuinely interested in others, she could strike up a conversation with anyone. She delighted in telling stories of her life’s adventures, from driving 18-wheel trucks across the country to managing an apartment complex. Her stories reflected a life lived with courage, independence, and an appreciation for new experiences.

Edith found great joy in the outdoors. She loved camping, fishing, and spending time in nature. She was well known for her “green thumb.” Gardening, especially growing flowers, was one of her greatest passions. In her later years, two faithful companions, her beloved dogs Buddy and Talia, brought her endless comfort, companionship, and happiness.

Edith was a member at Southview Christian Church in Grandview, Missouri for many years before her illnesses made it too difficult for her to attend. But she treasured her time there and maintained contact with several of her brothers and sisters over the years since.

More than anything, Edith will be remembered for her friendly spirit, her gift of conversation, her adventurous heart, and her ability to make those around her feel welcome. She leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her smile, engaging stories, and generous spirit.

A Celebration of Life honoring Edith Marie Erickson will be held from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Belton Parks and Recreation, Room A, 16400 N. Mullen Road, Belton, Missouri 64012.

Though her earthly journey has ended, her stories, kindness, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of the many friends who knew and loved her.
