DUANE KEITH ORR
Duane Keith Orr, age 77, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on September 18, 2019 after a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
A visitation service will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Salvation Army Olathe Corps Community Center, 420 E. Santa Fe St., Olathe, Kansas. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army Chapel. A burial will be held following the funeral service at the Osawatomie Cemetery, Paola, Kansas 66071.
He was born on June 26, 1942, son of Olen Orr and Elsie Field Orr. After graduating from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1960, Duane signed up the for the U.S. Navy where he served until his honorable discharge in 1963. Even though he was no longer enlisted in the Navy, his love for his country lasted throughout his life. After returning home from service, he was employed for a brief time with the Santa Fe Railroad. Due to his love of automobiles, he applied and was accepted for employment with General Motors, Kansas City Leeds Division. In 1985 Duane was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and retired from General Motors in October of 1991.
Prior to his MS advancing, he was able to make four mission trips to Mexico. He remained strong in his faith throughout his battle.
On July 1, 1985 Duane married the love of his life, Jody. They shared thirty-five wonderful years together. Jody devoted her life to his care. In this marriage, he gained a son Jeff and a daughter Lori.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Bess Orr, and a sister, Patricia Murley. He is survived by his wife, Jody; son, Jeff Dade; daughter, Lori DeWitt; granddaughter, Lindsey Rawie and husband Justin; and three great granddaughters, Alexa, Cora, and Leah Rawie. Duane's granddaughters were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister in-law, Shirley Denney and her husband Ken. He was deeply loved and always there for his family. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Duane's name to the Salvation Army Olathe Corps, 420 E. Santa Fe Street, Olathe, Kansas 66061.
