DOROTHY ELLEN MCKINLEY LANE

Dorothy Ellen McKinley Lane passed away peacefully Sunday, October 21, 2012. She was the daughter of John Wesley and Flossie Edith McKinley born May 2, 1930. Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Cullen Funeral Home with burial in Raymore Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. She was a lifelong resident of the Belton and Raymore communities; she married G. Barker Lane III of Raymore MO in 1950.
Dorothy graduated from Belton High School and was employed by Bendix Aviation. She acquired her Real Estate Broker's license and was marketing director for Foxwood Springs Living Center until her retirement in 1990. Dorothy was a member of the Belton United Methodist Church, a past matron of the Belton Eastern Star, member of the Cass County Historical Society, Raymore Historical Society, and Belton Community Projects Incorporated. She was instrumental in establishing the Belton Museum of History and Charter member of the Belton Historical Society and the Belton Belles China Painters. She was named Woman of the Year by the Belton Lions Club in 1984 for her outstanding community service. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, parents, and sister, Margie (Kent) Dimick. Survivors include daughter, Sandra and son-in-law Dan Braga; 2 granddaughters, Rachel and Laura; sister, Mary (Bill) Laffoon; five nieces, Dana Shannon, Diana (Bernie) Nickell , Brenda (Paul) Brainard, Dorothy (Bill) Beckner, Sharon McComas; three nephews, Damon Dimick, Kevin (Debbie) Dimick, George Coleman, and several great nephews and nieces. Dorothy will be remembered for her heart-felt commitment to her community and her love and devotion to her many friends and family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Heart/Stroke Association and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
