DONALD A. SLOVER
Donald A. Slover, age 83 of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2017, at St. Lukes Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family.
Don was born June 1, 1933 to Orville and Stella Slover in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He was the oldest of 7 children. A lot was expected of him and he was very helpful to his parents.
He lived in and around Excelsior Springs early on and graduated from ESHS in 1951. Don was a musician who performed locally with his father and brother. He worked for Sears until 1953 where he met his future wife, Loretta.
He entered the army in 1953 and served in Korea and Japan until 1955. While in the service he and his true love were married on May 1, 1954. Upon returning home he went to work for Westing House and began going to Rockhurst on the G.I. Bill. He and Loretta lived in south Kansas City and moved to Raymore in 1977. Their four children were raised in Raymore, three graduated from Ray-Pec and one from Hickman Mills.
For 35 years Don was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank where he eventually retired as Vice President. He was a good father, grandfather, friend, and all about family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Stella Slover; brothers, Tommy, Ronnie, and Billy Slover; sister, Patricia Brown. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Loretta Slover; children, Eric Slover (Janet), Kyle Slover (Crystal), Donna Matter (Danny), Julie Robinson (Ed); siblings, Jerry Slover and Mike Slover (Joyce), Clorecia Overstreet; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00-2:00, Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, Missouri. Burial will be in Raymore Cemetery.
