Obituary

DONALD EUGENE SHAFER

Donald Eugene Shafer was born in Kearney, NE on January 23, 1943 and died at Carnegie Village in Belton, MO on July 3, 2024 after suffering from Parkinson's Disease for over 14 years. He was surrounded by his wife, Linda of 60 years and children Janelle and Rick.   He graduated from Gothenburg, NE High School in 1961 and Milford Technical School in 1963. On April 5, 1964  he and Linda Drury  united in Marriage at North Star Church in Fullerton, NE.  Their children are Janelle (Phil) Kellogg of Raymore, MO and Rick Murch-Shafer (Karen} of Blair, NE.  He was preceded in death by his parents Glen  Shafer and Doris Shafer and brother Richard Shafer, In-laws Howard and Marjory Drury and Brother- in- Law Bruce Drury and Dale Neumann and sister-in-law Janice Shafer.  He is survived by his wife Linda of Belton, MO, brother Marvin Shafer of Kearney, NE,  sisters-in law Gwen Neumann of Lincoln, NE, Donna Drury of Beaumont, TX and Rodney and Jean Supencheck of Columbus, NE , and 4 Grandchildren, Zach Kellogg of Denver, CO, McKenzie Kitchell (Zane) of Belton, MO Joel Murch-Shafer of Morgantown, West Virginia and Jenna Murch-Shafer of Blair, NE.
While in Lincoln, they were both very active in First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, NE.
Don was employed by Nebraska Machinery, John Deere Industrial and Lancaster Department of Engineering of Lincoln, NE.

After retirement they built a house in Holiday Island, AR and were very active in H.I. Presbyterian Church. Don and Linda enjoyed the 18 years they spent there and both golfed with friends and each other. Even after they moved, they continued to follow Nebraska Volleyball and attended as many of the matches as possible.

After Linda needed more help caring for Don, they moved to a Senior Living Facility in Kansas City, MO.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, NE.
