Donald "Don" Jay Robert Watson
January 30, 1970- December 20, 2025
Donald "Don" Jay Robert Watson, 55, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud "Paw Paw," passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. After a long and courageous battle with medical issues, Don went home to be with the Lord.
Don was born on January 30, 1970, in Independence, Missouri. He dedicated many years to serving his community, working for the City of Pleasant Hill from 1992 to 1999. In 1999, he began his career with the Operating Engineers Local 101 and later worked with the Johnson County Road Crew until his retirement in 2020.
Don never met a stranger. He had a natural gift for conversation and connection, whether with a lifelong friend or someone he had just met. His warmth and friendliness were so well known that even the package delivery driver would schedule lunch breaks just to sit and talk with him. Don found joy in fishing, working the farm, spending time in the garage, and caring for animals - especially those considered the "underdogs." Above all else, he found his greatest joy in being a paw paw. He loved giving wheelchair rides, making sure little hands were always full of snacks and toys, and sneaking them sips of soda - memories his family will forever cherish.
In 1989, Don met the love of his life, Kathy. They were married on December 23, 1991, and spent 34 beautiful years building a family rooted in unconditional love, loyalty, and devotion. Together, Don and Kathy created a home filled with laughter, kindness, and steadfast support for one another and their children.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Watson, and his brothers, Jim and George Watson.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Watson; his children, Andrew Watson (Daphanie) and Brooke Watson (Jacob); his cherished grandchildren, Charlotte Watson and Amari Carter, with two more grandchildren expected in the spring. He is also survived by his siblings, Fred Watson (Teri), Becky Watson (Roger), and Connie Koch (Mike), along with many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
Services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Don will then be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnson County Christmas Cheer, helping bring the magic of Christmas to children throughout Johnson County, just as Don worked tirelessly to create that same Christmas magic for his own family.
