Donald G. Hayworth
August 4, 1947 – August 3, 2025
Donald G. Hayworth, 77, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully and holding hands with his love on August 3, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy marked by strength, service, laughter, and an adventurous spirit that touched everyone he met.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Dana Hayworth; his daughter, Ashley (Andy); two treasured granddaughters (Ada and Ari); his twin brother, Ron; and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Born with a zest for life, Don chased big dreams and lived boldly. He once opened a scuba diving shop in landlocked Wichita, Kansas, a move that only made sense if you knew Don. That venture led him to some of the most beautiful and breathtaking places in the world, where he built lasting memories under the sea. When a diving accident forced him to leave that chapter behind, he didn't slow down. Instead, at the age of 40, he answered another call, public service, and joined the Sedgwick County Fire Department. For the next two decades, he served with dedication and distinction, matching the energy and drive of recruits half his age.
Even in retirement, Don's commitment to others never faded. He traveled across the country with the Pink Heals organization, supporting women and families impacted by cancer. Whether he was in uniform or behind the wheel of a bright pink fire truck, Don showed up for others in meaningful, lasting ways.
He was strong, lively, and full of mischief. A devoted husband, a loving and supportive father, and the sweetest Papa to his granddaughters, Don made it his mission to live with purpose, laugh often, and lift others up.
His family finds peace knowing that he is now truly free, the kind of free he always sought through the adventures he lived, the stories he told, and the lives he touched. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of joy, service, and love will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 11th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Cottonwood Room at the Valley Center Community Center (314 E Clay ST, Valley Center, KS 67147). All who knew and loved Don are welcome to join in honoring his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pink Heals organization, or Alzheimer's Association in his honor. Celebration of life details to follow.
