Memorial Contributions may be given to the KU Alzheimer's Disease Center (KU Endowment, c/o Ted Kimble, Mail stop 3012, 3901 Rainbow Blvd. Kansas City, Kansas 66160).
Donald was born February 15, 1937 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was the son of Raymond and Ruby (Greeney) Brown. On August 27, 1960 Donald married the love of his life, Judith Howard. Together Donald and Judy shared the blessing of three children, Rhonda, Ron and Renèe.
For 30 years Donald lovingly supported his family as a painter for General Motors. In his spare time Donald enjoyed square dancing and for 15 years was a member of the "Backup Stars" square dancing group.
Donald was especially known for his portrayal as "Santa Claus" at Town Center, Bannister Mall, Ward Parkway, Nebraska Furniture Mart and also at various private events. Not only did he wear his own hair and beard but he possessed the true spirit of Santa in the way that he cared for children and their families. There was one occasion in particular that a small child disclosed to "Santa" that he and his family were living in their car. Donald was moved to do anything in his power to help. With the support of Donald's family and neighbors Donald found a place for the little child and his family to stay, along with a delivery of Christmas presents.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ruby Brown. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith "Judy" Brown; children, Rhonda (Ron) Weber, Ron (Dee) Brown, and Renèe (Day) Brown Al-Mohamed; 7 grandchildren, Colin, Ryan, Heather, Alyce, Brandon, Kyrstan (Michael) Taylor, Rhianna (Nick) Somers; and 3 great-grandchildren, Lila, Clover and Madison.
