Obituary

Donald "Don" L. Thomason, age 79, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2018.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm., Monday, February 26, 2018, at Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, Missouri. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.

Don was born February 8, 1939, in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was the son of John Thomason and Myrtle (Warren) Thomason.

Don lived in Altus, OK and then moved to Sentinel, OK where he graduated from Port High School in 1957. He moved to the Kansas City area shortly after graduation, where he met Joyce Triplett. Don was united in marriage to Joyce on April 3, 1964. They were blessed with three children, Janet, Deborah, and Scott. The family lived in Raytown, Missouri while the children were growing up and into retirement. They recently relocated to Raymore, Missouri. Don was a banker at United Missouri Bank in downtown Kansas City for over 33 years. He also served the mentally ill at a group home in Kansas City for five years in his retirement.

Don obeyed the Gospel at an early age and remained faithful until his death. Don was a member of the Church of Christ at the 85 th and Euclid congregation in Kansas City for over 50 years where he served the Lord as a leader and teacher. As a devoted father and grandfather, Don coached baseball for his son, Scott's team and later into the next generation, he coached his granddaughter, Shelby's softball team. Don also took pride in supporting his other hometown Kansas City teams, the Royals and the Chiefs.

As an avid trout fisherman, Don enjoyed vacationing and fly fishing at Bennett Springs, Missouri.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Thomason; brother, Cliff Thomason; and nephew, Wayne Thomason.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Thomason; his children, Janet Thomason, Deborah Thomason, and Scott Thomason and his wife, Becky; four grandchildren, Nathan, Shelby, Sam and Vinny; one great-granddaughter, Samantha; sisters-in-law, Lavonne; brother and sisters-in-law, Terry and Phyllis Gassen and Bill and Connie Mullins; nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Pallbearers will be Sam Thomason, Nathan Eckert, Danny Walters, Scott Stockam, Ryan Lorton, Alden Stockam. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Gassen and Bill Mullins.
