Domenic "J.R." Bruno, Jr., age 90, of Peculiar, Missouri passed away September 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Colonial Oaks Senior Living at Leawood.
A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon, Friday, September 22, 2023 at Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee's Summit, Missouri with military honors.
J.R. was born in Bevier, Missouri on November 10, 1932, the son of Domenic Bruno, Sr. and Mabel L. Phipps. J.R. was raised in a big family, he was one of eight children. He grew up on the family farm helping his parents and siblings run the farm. He later went on to serve his country in the United States Army. After his active military service, he transferred to the Army Reserve to complete eight years of service. In 1956, he met the love of his life Barbara Beullens and later married on December 30, 1956. Together, they were blessed with three boys, Dennis, James, and Donald. In life J.R. worked as a mechanic for many years. He loved spending his time mowing and weed eating his yard, tinkering on all kinds of things like cars, engines, and whatever he could get his hand on. He loved being outdoors and spending time with his family.
J.R. was preceded in death by his father, Domenic Bruno, Sr. and stepmom, Myrtle Ruth Cochrane; mother, Mabel L. Bruno; four brothers, Russell, Paul, Joe, and Charles Bruno; one sister, Virginia Hall; and infant son, Kenneth Bruno.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Barbara Bruno; three sons, Dennis Bruno (Angela), James Bruno (Pamela), and Donald Bruno (Tamila); two brothers, Dale Bruno (Judy) and Richard Bruno (Avis); three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
