Obituary

DIXIE SMITH

Dixie G. Smith passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2025 at the age of 78.

Dixie was born September 18, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Walter and Lorena Morrison.
Since a young adult Dixie was always the caregiver, taking family members to doctor appointments and assisting with follow-up care. In her final weeks when she was the one who needed assistance, she left very organized notes and placed things in a way to assist her caregivers.

Dixie liked to provide a place for people to get together. In her youth, the neighborhood kids would often hang out at the Morrison's with Dixie and her sisters, Sherry and Bonnie. This extended through her life being a gathering place for holidays and in her final home in Raymore, she and Gary would bring their lawn chairs out to the driveway and be the gathering place for the neighbors.

"Grandma Abbi" was very proud of each of her grandchildren. She really enjoyed playing games with them and always had great snacks. She would keep us laughing with her silly antics.
Personally, she liked words. She was an avid reader and enjoyed word games like crosswords, jumbles, and word searches. Lessons she learned from her parents that she lived by were honesty, faith, doing a job well, and respect.

Dixie was preceded in death by her son, Gary Allen Peters, and her parents, Walter and Lorena Morrison.

She is survived by her husband Gary Smith, son Steve Peters (Marie), grandchildren Daniel, Emily, and Elias Peters, sisters Sharon Benn and Bonnie Gash (Bob), and step-daughter Andrea Benoit (Andrew).
