DEWAYNE EVERETT LONG
Dewayne Everett Long, age 75, of Raymore, Missouri passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, after a long battle with cancers caused by Agent Orange. He was blessed to receive a stem cell transplant in 2010 from his twin brother Wayne and enjoyed 15 additional years of life.
Dewayne was born in Harrisonville, Missouri on July 14, 1950, the son of Wayne Everett Long and Alice Faye Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jim, Michael, and Wayne, and his son, Travis Ryan Long.
He grew up in several small towns then his family settled in Raymore, Missouri by the fourth grade. He had a "buddy" in every school. He and his dear twin brother, Wayne E. Long, Jr. graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School in 1968. He worked for Bendix for a year before joining the U.S. Army. He was sent to serve in Vietnam to fight as a truck driver moving troops and supplies over mountain roads to and from firebases. Upon his discharge he returned to Bendix when he met his wife of 53 years, Cheryl. Having two children while living in Kansas City, Missouri, they moved to Raymore when their oldest was ready for kindergarten. He graduated from CMSU then returned to Honeywell for 30 years, as a Purchasing Manager and Director of Waste Management. Upon retiring and a brief hiatus, he worked at UMKC as a Consultant helping small business owners apply for and obtain government loans. He really enjoyed helping people.
He loved playing golf, traveling with his wife, children and friends, riding on the boat, and laying on the beach listening to Jimmy Buffet music. He lived life to its fullest and enjoyed outdoor work on his acreage, fixing things around the house, and maintaining the family cars.
He was a brave and strong man, role model for his family and a compassionate man of faith. He knew he would be reunited with his son, Travis and brothers and never feared death. He will be forever in our hearts.
Dewayne is survived by his son, Brandon Long (Claire); his wife Cheryl (married in 1972); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
