DENNIS E. BARNHART
Dennis E. Barnhart, age 91, of Raymore, Missouri passed away peacefully at his home on June 19, 2017. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Cullen Funeral Home. There will be a luncheon at Morningview Clubhouse following the visitation, 706 Sunrise drive, Raymore, MO 64083. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
Dennis was born October 7, 1925 in Meta, Missouri. He was the son of Dennie and Luella (Vaughn) Barnhart. During World War II Dennis proudly served his country in the Navy as Seaman, First Class, and was on the USS General ET Collins. After the war, he was a loyal patient of the VA for 70 years, lately known as one of the oldest patients.
For the majority of his life, Dennis lovingly supported his family as a self-employed contractor, builder and home remodeler. He owned and operated DE Barnhart and Welborn Wood products since 1947. He served a period of time as a special deputy of the Wyandotte County Ks. Sheriff's Office. He was awarded a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. With his many talents he enjoyed painting portraits, gardening and building model ships.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel L. Barnhart; his parents, Dennie and Luella Barnhart; one brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Irene Barnhart; children, Stephen Barnhart, Gary Lowery (Rebecca), Darla Amerson (Charles), and Lisa Edington (Dean); 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
