CONSTANCE RUTH OWENS
Constance Ruth Owens died September 22, 2013 near Rantoul Ks. Connie was the eldest of 8 children born to Gilbert W. Lytle and Eula E [Harbison] Lytle on March 6,1921 in Salina, Ks. She was raised in the north central region of Ks. going to schools in Salina and Beloit and graduated from Bavaria High school in 1939. She married Walter J Habiger in 1940. They had 4 children. The marriage ended in divorce. She married Glenn E Owens in 1951. They moved the family to Nevada Mo then to KCMO in 1954. In 1957 she achieved a lifelong dream of becoming a Practical Nurse and graduated Class Valedictorian from the School of Practical Nursing, KCMO. She and Glenn had one son. She was a resident of Peculiar, Mo. since 1992. Connie was like a second mother to her siblings. She survived the great depression and was a single mom to 3 young daughters. She re-roofed her house, made bread for a living was a phone operator, housekeeper clothing factory worker, wrapped presents in a department store before becoming a nurse. She worked at Menorah Medical Center, Garment Workers Union Clinic and for Drs Kent, Baum, Levey, Liu and Kauffman before retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, quilting and making prom dresses and wedding gowns for her daughter and granddaughters. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. She constantly struggled to make a better life for herself and her children and encouraged them to participate in activities and to do their best. People who would meet her said how nice a person she was. She taught her children to respect other people regardless of color, politics or religious beliefs. She loved her dogs and cats and cared for little birds that fell from their nests. She loved her garden and especially her flowers. She was a Christian and a member of United Methodist Church of Peculiar, UMW, The Get Together Club and Peculiar Senior Citizens. Connie was preceded in death by her husband Glenn; her parents and son Leslie; sisters: Betty, Arlette and Iona. She is survived by daughters: Sylvia [Raymond] Roeser, Sally Habiger, Louise [Titus] Hatcher and son John [Melody] Owens; brothers: Orville, Jesse and Robert Lytle and sister Susan Humphrey. She is also survived by grandchildren: Jeff, Becky, Leslie, Tim, Christina, Lisa, Kathy, Amy, Megan, Sarah, and Randi. Great grandchildren include: Kyle Lee, Lori, Brennan, Kyle Paul, Jacoby, Brent, Madelyne, Josh, Morgyn Julia, Libby, Caitlyn, Brooklynn, Elizabeth and Danielle. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Cullen Funeral Home with visitation 9:30-10:30 AM. Graveside will be 2:30 PM at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, Mo. The family would like to thank all Connie's faithful friends for their calls and cards sent during her illness. A special thank you to the staff of Midland Care Ottawa/ Topeka Ks for instructions, care and support during her illness. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Peculiar or charity of choice.
