CLARICE M. AKINS

Clarice M. Akins, age 79, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away September 23, 2017, at Lee's Summit Medical Center. Private services have been scheduled for family and friends. Box 756, Peculiar, Missouri, 64078.

Clarice was born January 20, 1938, in Pine Grove, West Virginia. She was the daughter of John K. Utt and Inez M. (Derby) Utt. Clarice was united in marriage with George W. Akins in Garden City, Missouri on June 22, 1977. Together, Clarice and George shared in the love of seven children, Cathy, Cindy, Carla, Curtis, Ron, Mike, and Joyce.

For 35 years, Clarice worked for the Peterson Manufacturing Company in Grandview, Missouri, until her retirement.

Clarice was a member of the Church of Christ in Peculiar Missouri, where she enjoyed fellowship with her church family, worshiping God and singing. Clarice was a friend to everyone. She especially loved spending time with her family, and was committed to making sure her children were raised to love the LORD.

During George's battle with Alzheimer's disease, Clarice selflessly and lovingly cared for her husband and best friend at their home, until his death in 2013.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez Utt; her husband of 36 years, George W. Akins; daughter, Cara Shuman; siblings, Frank Utt, Vern Utt, Charles Utt, William Utt, Claude Utt, and Ada Stackpole; and one son-in-law, Daniel J. Hatt.

She is survived by her children, Cathy Simms (Darryl), Cindy Collinsworth (Michael); Carla Hatt, three step-children, Mike Akins (Celeste), Ron Akins (Neva), and Joyce Akins; sister, Sara Miller; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and her beloved King Charles Spaniel, "Baby Puppy".
