DR. CHRIS K. FOTOPOULOS
Dr. Chris K. Fotopoulos, of Olathe, KS fell asleep in the Lord on May 12, 2017, surrounded by loving family at home.
Born Poulo Konstantinos Fotopoulos in Omaha, Nebraska, he was the only surviving child of Greek immigrant parents Konstantinos Demetrios and Katina Fotopoulos. His two older brothers died in infancy. His father was a gandy-dancer for the Union Pacific Railroad. In his youth, Chris worked along side his father for the railroad. He also held various other jobs, even owning and operating a movie theater as he worked his way through school.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Creighton University and a Master of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine in 1960 and in 1965 completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Missouri-Kansas City General Hospital.
Chris met his future wife, Donna Geisser, when they both worked at Kansas City General Hospital. They married on February 24, 1967 and became the proud parents of Constantine Lan and Christopher Don. Chris and Donna celebrated 50 years of a wonderful marriage this year.
Dr. Fotopoulos was Chief of Surgery at North Kansas City Memorial Hospital, as well as practicing at Smithville Hospital and Liberty Hospital. He served as a Councilman for North Kansas City City Council and Clay County Coroner. In 1978, Chris took his expertise to establish the surgical department at Lake Ozark General Hospital, now known as Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri. He was a member of the American Medical Society, Southwest Missouri Medical Society, and was a charter member and president of the Lake of the Ozarks Medical Society. Upon his retirement from general surgery, he practiced emergency medicine until fully retiring 2009. He considered it a privilege to practice medicine and his career as a physician and surgeon was an honored commitment. He practiced medicine with integrity and cared for his patients with skill and respect.
Aside from Chris's professional pursuits he was honored to be Parish Council President of Saint Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church. He fondly enjoyed spending time with his wife Donna, playing with his grandchildren, and enjoying the company of his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna; son Dr. Constantine Lan Fotopoulos and wife Aleisha; son Dr. Christopher Don Fotopoulos and wife Kristen; grandchildren Eleni, Demetri, Alexandra, and Stella Fotopoulos, and Cullen Kintner; sisters-in-law Janice Clemons and her late husband Bill and Frances Johnson and husband Neale; nieces and nephew Becky Watson, Carrie Viebrock, April Gamel, Ryan W. Johnson, and Ashley Johnson; and godchildren Katina, Johnny and Kristina.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church 8100 W 95th St., Overland Park, KS 66212 with visitation 10-11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church Overland Park, Kansas.
