CHARLES JOSEPH DELAPP JR.

He was raised in Springfield, MO, and graduated from Central High School in 1948. He achieved the rank of Airman First Class, served as a Radio Operator in a Forward Air Control Team directing air strikes during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1954. Following his military service, Charles married Nancy J. Green and went to work with International Business Machines in 1955, where he was known as "Charlie." Over his thirty-two-year career with IBM, he received numerous outstanding service awards and retired in 1987. He then served the City of Grandview, Missouri from 1989-1996 as an Alderman and enjoyed international travel to Japan and Australia. Charles was an avid fan of the Royals baseball team and enjoyed many hobbies, including collecting classic cars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Heart of America Chapter of the Studebaker Club.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy DeLapp, his brother Michael DeLapp, his three children Thomas J. DeLapp, Charles R. DeLapp, Carrie DeLapp-Culver, his three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
His family and friends were his source of sustenance and he never missed an opportunity to provide wisdom, comfort or a healthy dose of humor to all he encountered. He will be sorely missed by many.
