Obituary

Bryant Berry, 78, of Raymore, MO, passed away July 9, 2015. Graveside Services will be 11AM, Wednesday, July 15, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-7:30PM and service will be 7:30-8PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Cullen Funeral home in Raymore.

Bryant passed away on the evening of July 9, surrounded by his family, at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Born on February 6, 1937, in Milledgeville, Georgia to Adolphus Bryan and Virginia Berry, Bryant was an only child. The family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and Bryant grew up enjoying music, theater, and sports. He attended public and military schools and his supplemental education included Florida State University and Richmond University. When Bryant was eligible, he joined the United States Marine Corp. While in the Marines, he met and fell in love with Betty Joyce Day. Bryant left the Marines and he and Betty married on July, 15, 1960, in Thomasville, Georgia. They lived in many different locations before settling in Tallahassee, Florida with their three children. After nine years in Florida, the family then relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. Bryant and Betty were owners of three Childcare centers, as well as other business and residential properties in Missouri and Florida. In 2011, he and Betty moved to Raymore to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Bryant is preceded in death by his father, Adolphus Bryan Berry, and his mother, Virginia (Walker) Berry. He is survived by his wife, Betty Joyce (Day) Berry, and his children, Robert Berry (with spouse Kelly Fizer), Barbara (Berry) Briggs (with spouse Kraig Briggs), and Richard Berry (with spouse Jessica (Kolkin) Berry). Surviving grandchildren include Ashley (Briggs) Krone (with spouse Bradley Krone), Austin Briggs, Jamie Berry, Michael Berry, Ally Berry, Zoey Berry, Lily Berry, and Sydney Berry.

Bryant was known for telling good (and not-so-good) jokes. His recent favorite was "Question: What do you call a boomerang that doesn't come back? Answer: A stick." (All of the doctors and nurses got to hear that one.) Bryant was also a frequent grand-prize winner of the Berry Family Annual Easter Chili Cook-off.
