BRIAN BEN SPURGEON

Brian Ben Spurgeon passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the age of 57 years.

Brian was born on December 23, 1964, to Doyle and Janice (Hesemann) Spurgeon in Jefferson City, MO.  Brian's early years were with his family in Chamois, MO until 1978 when the family moved to St. James, MO.  Brian graduated from St. James High School in 1983 and then from East Central College in Union, MO with an associate degree in auto mechanics. He later worked as an auto mechanic, tire technician, recycling technician, and truck driver as he resided in the family home in St. James.  In 2017, Brian and his mother moved to Raymore, MO and quickly became a part of the Foxwood Springs Retirement community.

Brian developed a love of wood working and made various pieces for family and friends. He also enjoyed grilling and smoking meats for family dinners.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Buell and Esther (Wright) Spurgeon, grandparents Chester and Helen (Landwehr) Hesemann, and nephew Dean Spurgeon.  He is survived by his siblings Anita (Don) Sandwell of Peculiar, MO, David (Debbie) Spurgeon of Mt. Sterling, MO, and Earl (Susan Walker) Spurgeon of Peculiar, MO, nieces Jessica (Brandon) Denkler and Nicole (Alex Huckaba) Spurgeon, and nephews Adam (Amy) Sandwell and Roy Spurgeon, as well as great-nieces (Makenna, Paige, Nan) and a great-nephew (Alfred).  Brian is also survived by several beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Celebration of Brian's life will be at Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, MO on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, with visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed by a service from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  Private interment will be at Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, MO at a later date.
