Betty was born October 13, 1937 in Fair Play, Missouri. She was the daughter of Jesse Lower and Elsie (Hartley) Lower-Forgey.
Betty married Grover F. Sexton on February 1st, 1957 and raised 4 children. She was happily married until Grover's passing on November 3rd, 2003. Betty married John Hendershot on December 3, 2012. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her friends deeply and made new friends wherever she went.
She worked as a telephone operator before becoming and working as a full time homemaker. She was the kind of mom that enjoyed having kids around, volunteering for scouts and sleepovers.
She was blessed with many talents and skills. She enjoyed growing a huge garden, and canned fruits and vegetables to keep her family fed throughout the winter. To say she had a green thumb was an understatement; she could never leave a plant behind. She loved plants and flowers of all kinds, and always had a huge collection of houseplants including orchids. She was an officer for the Orchid Society of Greater Kansas City for several years.
She was also a talented artist, creating many beautiful pieces to adorn her home and the homes of friends and relatives. Her love of nature's beauty and wholesome living was represented in her art. She mostly loved painting with acrylics, but dabbled in other media as well. She probably crocheted hundreds of hot pads and dishcloths over the years.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Lower and Elsie (Hartley) Lower-Forgey; her first husband, Grover Sexton; and sister, Bertha Roberts Periman.
She is survived by her husband, John Hendershot, of the home. Her children, Mark Sexton, Kirk Sexton (Johnna), Neal Sexton (Judy) and Lori Finley (Terry); her siblings, Bernard Lower (Helen), John Lower (Claudia), Dick Lower (Anna Lee), Fred Lower, Larry Joe Lower (Gerry Martin), Beulah Watkins, and Ann Hewes (Bob); seven grandchildren, Andrew, Kimberly, Malissa, Tyler, Natalie, Molly, and Katie; and one great-grandchild, Aiden.
