BERTHA E. DEAKINS

Bertha E. (Starner) Deakins, age 90, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home in Belton.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Heartland Family Ministries, First Baptist Church of Belton, 810 S. Cedar St., Belton, Missouri 64012. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Osceola Cemetery in Osceola, Missouri.

Bertha the youngest of eight children of Russell and Mary Starner was born September 6, 1930 on a farm near Osceola, Missouri where she lived until she was sixteen years old. Her parents moved to Peculiar, Missouri. She graduated from Peculiar High School. She married William Deakins on March 1, 1950. She had lived in Belton since 1953. She was a member of Heartland First Baptist Church since June 21, 1964, where she taught in Sunday School for thirty four years. She did some sign language and had many friends there. Her last employer was Cass County Public Library Belton Branch, where she worked for eighteen years retiring in 1996.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband William, her parents, one brother Lloyd Starner, six sisters Gladys DeLozier, Lorie Keeton, Bessie Caven, Irene Bonner, Ruth Keeton, and Laura Lee Dorrell.

She is survived by one son, Jim Deakins, a daughter and son-in-law Lori and Keith Crosby, Three grandchildren, Sara Falke (Josh), Samuel and Thomas Crosby, great grandson, Wyatt William Falke, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Heartland First Baptist Church as addressed above.
