BERTHA "LUCILLE" CARTER

Bertha "Lucille" Carter, age 95, of Peculiar, Missouri passed away November 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at the Benton House in Raymore, Missouri.

A visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, Missouri. Funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.

Lucille was born November 23, 1926 in Metz, Missouri, the daughter of Louie Ragan and Blanche Leota Schafer Ragan. After high school, Lucille met the love of her life, Kenneth Marion Carter. On May 10, 1945 they were joined in marriage in Fort Scott, Kansas. Together, they were blessed with four loving children, Gary, Shirley, Teresa, and Kenny.

Lucille worked as a stay-at-home mother until 1948 when the family journeyed to Portland Oregon picking fruit on the way. The family moved back to Kansas City, and they bought a farm in Grandview MO. In 1957, they bought the farm in Peculiar, Missouri. Whatever Kenneth was doing, you could be sure that you would find Lucille right next to him helping, whether it was running the farm, or the farm implement business. When Kenneth started his consulting business, Lucille was still right by his side helping to run the business, keeping the books and even going out on the jobs to help diagnose the problems that Kenneth would find. While Kenneth was teaching, Lucille worked as an office manager for a dental office and later at a local Hallmark store.

First and foremost, Lucille loved her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, and camping. She also was a talented quilter, woodworker, and gardener and in the cold winter months she kept busy putting puzzles together.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Marion Carter; granddaughter, Shauna Heck; great-grandson, Jonathan Schrock; and seven siblings, Edna Wingate, Vera Ballenger, Verl Burchell, Ralph Ragan, Charley Ragan, Florence Joann Wadel, and infant baby Clara Ragan.

She is survived by her four children, son, Gary Carter (Betsey) of Peculiar, MO, daughters, Shirley Garrett (David) of Garden City, MO, Teresa Morton (Dudley) of Peculiar, MO, son, Kenny Carter (Kathy) of Peculiar, MO; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
