Jean was born in Bertrand, Missouri to Fred Fears and Myrl Crawford Fears on April 15, 1935. She had 3 siblings John, Wanda, and Jim. Jean attended a one room schoolhouse at Bunker Hill, Missouri. The family moved to Bernie, Missouri in 1942 where they raised cotton. The entire family was baptized together in 1951 into the Community of Christ.
Jean received an associate degree from Graceland College, where she met James Tabor. They married on October 16, 1954 and initially moved to Michigan where Jim was stationed in the Army. From there they moved to Des Moines, Iowa were they raised 3 children, Susan, Bill, and Nancy.
Jean was an accomplished homemaker, with her specialties in cooking, sewing, and decorating. She loved to entertain, and she was a successful real estate agent. Jean and Jim loved to play cards, golf, and travel. After retiring they moved to Blue Springs, Missouri. They had a lake home in Bella Vista, Arkansas where they enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends. She was a dedicated lifelong member of Community of Christ, President of the Historic Sites Foundation, and volunteered for numerous activities in her local congregations.
Jean passed away on Saturday January 13, 2024 surrounded by her immediate family. She is survived by her sister Wanda Miller; her children Susan Bradford (Kent), Bill Tabor (Koni), and Nancy Smith (Terry); 7 grandchildren: Rachel Tovey (Mark), Kirk Tabor (Kaylee), Rhonda Bradford, Kylie Richards, Kason Tabor, McKenzie Richards, and Kami Martin (Eli) and 5 great-grandchildren Milly and Mason Tovey, Kohen, Krew, and Kora Tabor. Jean and Jim had a special bond with their grandchildren and frequently had them over for meals and domino's. Jean enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 3, 2024 at Good Shepherd Community of Christ, 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am immediately followed by the service at 11:00 am.
