IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Jean
Baucom
August 8, 1938 – February 7, 2018
BARBARA JEAN BAUCOM
Barbara Jean Baucom, age 79, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, 2018. A family celebration of life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barb's honor may be made to Wayside Waifs ( www.waysidewaifs.org ) or Harvesters Community Food Network ( www.harvesters.org ).
Barbara was born on August 8, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Arthur William Albrecht and Mildred Jeanette (Heites) Albrecht.
As a child, growing up in the city of St. Louis, she was fondly nicknamed "King of the Wild Horses". She was active in Spanish Club, volleyball and was quite the "ace" on the tennis courts. On August 16, 1958, Barbara was united in marriage with her Southwest High School sweetheart, Larry Baucom. Barb and Larry were blessed with two daughters, Julia and Rebecca.
Barb was a stay at home mom until her daughters were older. She then went to work for the State of Missouri in various executive capacities and attended Lincoln University, majoring in Telecommunications.
Barb was a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Wives Club, taught Sunday School at the Central United Church of Christ, and volunteered many hours at the school where her daughter taught third grade. In retirement, Barb served as the Ladies and the Couples Golf League President at Indian Rocks Golf Course at the Lake of the Ozarks.
In her spare time, Barb enjoyed reading on her Kindle, sewing, staying in touch with Patrol friends, working in the yard and spending time with her faithful companion, Rusty (a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). Her most loved activity, however, was spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren. Her grandchildren would frequently bring their friends to her house, where everyone loved "Mammy" (as they affectionately called her).
Barb lived a very full and active life; she was loved by everyone who knew her. She could always be counted on for advice, something to eat and/or a good laugh.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mildred Albrecht; her husband of 49 years, Larry Baucom; and her sister, Sylvia Della Albrecht.
She is survived by her daughters, Julia Baucom, and Rebecca Oshel and her husband, Dave; sister, Jeanette Conrad; two grandchildren, Zachary and Megan; and nephew, Mark Scheitlin.
