Armella was born on February 2, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the daughter of Alexander J. Unrein and Anna (Marton) Unrein. Armella grew up with one younger brother, Timothy and one younger sister, Paula. Shortly after graduating from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas, she was joined in marriage with her husband Gerald J. Bartkoski on February 8, 1969. Together they were blessed with a daughter, Laura. Later in life being blessed with five grandchildren, who were the light of Armella's world.
As a woman of Catholic faith, Armella was a member of Coronation of Our Lady Parish in Grandview, Missouri. While she and Gerald were as active as they could be in the church, Armella devoted much of her time to supporting her five grandchildren in their interests and activities. In life, Armella's family is what stood closest to her heart. However, a passion for cooking is what identified her as a loving mother and wife. It was very important to her to keep family recipes alive and passed on to her family for future generations. At any gathering, especially Thanksgiving or Christmas, Armella insisted on being involved in the planning and preparation alongside her daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and nieces. Armella will be missed for many reasons, above all, because of how actively she loved her family. She was many things to many people.
Armella is preceded in death by her parents, Alexander "Alex" J. Unrein and Anna Unrein.
She is survived by her loving husband of over fifty years, Gerald J. Bartkoski; daughter, Laura M. Brown (husband Douglas) and their precious children Anna, Molly, Cooper, Gemma, and Bridgett Brown; brother, Timothy F. Unrein (Diane), loving nieces Jessica, Jennifer, Hillary, and Heather and their spouses and children; sister, Paula A. McRorey (Robert) loving nephew Kyle; and many precious grandnieces and grandnephews.
