ARLENE GLADYS GUSS
Arlene Gladys Guss, age 83, of Belton, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2018, at Redwood of Raymore.
Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2018, at St. Sabina Catholic Church, Belton, Missouri. Burial will take place at the Belton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
Arlene was born on August 12, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Alfred and Clara (Schwabe) Engel.
On April 11, 1959, Arlene was united in marriage with Robert Guss. Together, Arlene and Robert were blessed with five children, Greg, Donna, William "Bill", John, and Linda.
In addition to being a loving mother, devoted wife and homemaker, Arlene also worked outside of the home in the lunch room of the Cambridge Elementary School in Belton. It was there where her children fondly remember her caring presence.
Traveling the world with her husband and family held a special place in Arlene's heart. She has visited England and Spain, along with memorable cruises to the Hawaiian Islands, Cozumel, Morocco, and the Panama Canal.
Arlene was a member of the St. Sabina Catholic Church in Belton, the Women's Auxiliary of Belton, TOPS, and the A.F.W.O.A (Air Force Women's Officers Association.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 50, years, Robert Guss; her parents, Alfred and Clara Engel; her sister, Marilyn Quiram and husband, Harold; and her brother, Robert Engel and wife, Lavern.
Arlene is survived by her children, Greg Guss, Donna (husband, Jim) Shearer, William "Bill" Guss, John (wife, Trish) Guss, and Linda Guss (significant other, Todd McClanahan); eight grandchildren, Dana Justice (husband, Carlos), Perry Shearer, Anthony Guss (wife, Tiffany), Mitchell Jeck (wife, Dionne), Kevin Guss, Dylan Smith, Hannah Smith, and Eileen Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Seth, Summer, Joshua, Piper, Addyson, Colten, Thea, and Gemma.
