Obituary

ALMA RUTH COWAN

Alma Ruth Cowan, age 83, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Cullen Funeral Home, Inc., 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the services at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow at the Belton Cemetery, Belton, Missouri.

Alma was born in Harper, Kansas on February 16, 1943, to Elmer M. Gaug, Sr. and Winifred Gresham Gaug. The family moved a few years later to a farm west of Harrisonville, Missouri and later to Freeman, Missouri. In May 1961, Alma graduated from High School at Midway Cass R-1 School Freeman, Missouri. On March 10, 1962, Alma married Darrel D. Cowan. They spent their married life in Belton and celebrated over 50 years together.

Alma worked for many years at Western Electric. For 15 years Alma and friend Rachel Campbell owned and operated the Beacon Bible Bookstore in Belton opening the store in August 1979. Alma and Darrel spent many years traveling the United States and Canada as well as numerous trips to Branson, Missouri. They always had cats in their home. Alma was an avid gardener with many flowers both outside and inside. She was a collector of Precious Moments and supported Darrel in the Lions Club. In later years, Alma enjoyed scrapbooking creating many interesting albums. Alma was involved in various activities with the Baptist Church.

Alma is survived by one brother, Elmer M. Gaug, Jr. in Meadville, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and close friends.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrel, a brother, James Lee Gaug, and a niece, Melinda Gaug.
