ALEXA JANELLE COWAN

Alexa Janelle Cowan, age 47, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A celebration of Alexa's life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alexa was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 25, 1974 to Edward William Smith and Linda Glee (Place) Smith. She graduated Truman High School in 1992 and went on to devote her life to being a mother. In life, she was blessed with two daughters, Autumn Brooke and Aubrie Elizabeth. Being their mother was Alexa's passion in life; to know her meant you knew her daughters. She took pride in the girls' accomplishments and was extremely supportive of them. Alexa was joined in marriage with her husband, Curtis, on December 1, 2012 in Grain Valley, Missouri. Their love was obvious to all.

Alexa had a deep passion for reading. She was involved in several online groups where she was tasked with reading and reviewing upcoming books. She poured a great deal of work into her small library, decorating the shelves with rows of collected trinkets, novelty items, and more than a hundred books. Alexa was also passionate about music, especially singing. It was common to hear her voice floating through the house while she tended to her plants or cooked for her family. She participated in online communities where she was able to showcase her voice and explore her passion for singing.

One of Alexa's favorite times of the year was fall; she loved the weather but most importantly, the beautiful colors the season brings. Every room would be full of pumpkins, leaves, and fall decor: even the toilet seat covers in the bathroom. During Christmas, her home was adorned in lights, ornaments, candy canes, Santas, miniature reindeer, and of course, a beautiful, sparkling tree. She loved creating that Christmas spirit for her family and friends.

Alexa was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Betty Jean and Garland Place; and paternal grandparents, Jewell and Maxie Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Lee Cowan; parents, Linda Glee and Edward William Smith; two daughters, Autumn and Aubrie Cole; sister, Allison Smith Constable; and two nieces, Breana and Blaire Constable.

In honor of offering life to others, Alexa Cowan was given a medallion for the donation of her two kidneys. Through her sacrifice, others may have a second chance at life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Literacy KC, Changing Lives Beyond Words online at www.literacykc.org
