ALBEN C. MCDONALD
Alben C. McDonald, age 77, of Belton, MO, passed away on December 4, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:00 p.m., Friday, December 8, with funeral service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on behalf of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (www.stjude.org).
Alben was born on December 23, 1939, in Battiest, Oklahoma, to Chester E. McDonald and Dena McDonald (LeFlore).
Alben graduated from Talihina High School (OK) in the Spring of 1957, and enlisted in the US Air Force thereafter, serving the majority of his commitment in Fairbanks, AK, as a hospital administrator.
For over 30 years, Alben worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier until his retirement.
Alben was a gifted athlete, who enjoyed competition, whether it be football, basketball, or track, in his younger days, or shuffleboard in his later years. He was a coach and avid spectator, especially when family were involved. Alben also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a tribal member of the Choctaw Nation, a member of the Grandview Elks Lodge #2088, and the Missouri State Shuffleboard Association where he was affectionately known by fellow shuffleboard players as, "Big Indian".
Alben was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Dena McDonald; sister, Barbara McDonald; brother, Henry "J" McDonald; and sister-in-law, Joyce McDonald.
He is survived by his children, Cordell McDonald, Casey McDonald, and Darcie McDonald (Sean); brother, Glen McDonald (Trish); six grandchildren, Aubrie, Anna, Mason, Sawyer, Swayzie, and Myla; and many nieces and nephews.
